Popular Lake Martin restaurant closed indefinitely after fire
The owners of a popular Lake Martin restaurant say it will be closed indefinitely following a serious fire last month.
SpringHouse, off Benson Mill Road in Alexander City, is closed for “restoration and repair” following a fire on Dec. 23.
“Unfortunately, we don’t have a confirmed reopening date yet,” the restaurant stated in a message on its website and social media accounts.
WSFA reported the fire apparently started in the chimney when restaurant workers were cooking in the fireplace. The blaze then spread to the attic, which complicated efforts to extinguish it.
The Alexander City Fire Department, along with Ourtown, Ray, Kowaliga and Windermere volunteer fire departments responded. No one was injured.
Known for its particular spin on traditional Southern cuisine, SpringHouse is a restaurant situated in a stone and wood hilltop structure with seating for nearly 200, a main dining room, two outdoor patios, and an upstairs bar and dining area.
SpringHouse, which opened in 2009, featured dishes by executive chef Rob McDaniel, who later opened Helen in downtown Birmingham with his wife, Emily.
