Popular Fairhope restaurant opening new location in Pensacola

A popular Fairhope restaurant will be bringing its “New South Casual” vibe to Pensacola this summer.

Ox Kitchen, which opened in Fairhope in 2017, recently announced a new location opening in The Garden — an open-air food court in Pensacola — this summer, with a mid-June target date.

Owner Bo Hamilton first opened Ox Kitchen in what is now The Mill in Fairhope, with the goal of creating “a place where locals would eat. Somewhere approachable and not stuffy, somewhere that served simple, quality food without all the bull.”

The Ox Kitchen — named for Hamilton’s wife’s hometown of Oxford, Miss. — has developed a devoted following thanks to its largely in-house daily, including smoked turkey sandwiches with chipotle mayonnaise; “Ox Fries” with gravy house blue cheese and green onion; roasted brussel sprouts with Ponzu sauce; pecan-smoked wings; the “Ox Burger”; and the “Ox Chicken Sandwich,” which can be ordered grilled, fried or Buffalo-style and served with Alabama White Sauce.

After about five years in its original, food court-style location, Ox Kitchen moved into its own building in Fairhope at 365 Greeno Road South in 2022.

The Pensacola location will feature a smaller version of the Fairhope menu, with a focus on burgers, something that Michael Carro, owner of The Garden, said was missing, according to the Pensacola News Journal.

“We were expecting a good burger,” Carro told the outlet. “We weren’t expecting such a phenomenal experience.”
