Popular brand of butter recalled due to possible fecal contamination
Vermont-based Cabot Creamery is recalling more than 1,701 pounds of butter due to the product containing “elevated levels of coliform,” according to the Federal Drug Administration.
Coliform, reports Eating Well, is a bacteria found in human and animal feces.
The recall affects eight-ounce packages of Cabot Creamery Extra Creamy Premium Butter, Sea Salted. The butter comes in a package of two four-ounce sticks with the UPC number 078354 620380 printed on the packaging. The recalled butter also has a best-by date of September 9, 2025, and lot numbers “090925-055” and “2038.”
The butter was sold at retailers in Arkansas, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania and Vermont.
The FDA marks the recall as Class III, meaning the agency believes the affected products are, “not likely to cause adverse health consequences, reports USA TODAY.
