Popular Alabama meteorologist dead at 82
Meteorologist John Edd Thompson, the longtime face of Mobile’s FOX10 weather team, has died, according to an announcement from the station.
He was 82 years old.
Prior to his retirement in 2009, Thompson served as FOX10’s chief meteorologist for 30 years.
During that time, he covered several major weather events like hurricanes Frederic, Ivan and Katrina.
He is also credited by the station as a “driving force” behind the Frank Brown songwriters festival in Gulf Shores.
Thompson attended Murphy High School, the University of Alabama and Mississippi State University, according to FOX10.
“He’s survived by his wife Sharon and many other loved ones,” the station’s post reads.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.”
