Pop superstar going country, cites time spent in Muscle Shoals

Lana Del Rey has given her albums some awesome titles over the years, including “Born to Die,” Norman F–king Rockwell!,” and “Chemtrails over the Country Club.”

Her latest album appellation, 2023′s “Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd,” was particularly epic.

Not surprisingly, the noir pop superstar’s come up with a succinctly spectacular and fitting name for her first-ever country album, “Lasso.”

As reported by Billboard, Del Rey revealed the album title and her new musical direction, during her speech honoring producer Jack Antonoff — known for his work with Del Rey, Taylor Swift and other top contemporary acts — Wednesday night at the Billboard and NMPA Songwriter Awards in Los Angeles.

“If you can’t already tell by our award winners and our performers,” Del Rey said at the awards ceremony, “the music business is going country. We’re going country. It’s happening. That’s why Jack has followed me to Muscle Shoals, Nashville, Mississippi, over the last four years.”

“Lasso,” Del Rey’s 10th studio disc, is slated for a September release. The hauntingly voiced singer is known for hits like “Summertime Sadness,” “Video Games” and “Young and Beautiful.”

This summer, Del Rey, who has family in the Florence area, was seen out and about in Alabama several times. Those include her now-viral stint as a Waffle House waitress and, as noted in her Antonoff-feting speech Wednesday, an impromptu recording session at hallowed studio Muscle Shoals Sound.
