Police searching for remains of missing Alabama woman murdered in 2017

A search is underway in southeast Alabama for the remains of a missing woman who was murdered in 2017.

Malcolm Hunter, the boyfriend of 26-year-old Ayanna Smith, was found guilty in 2018 of Smith’s murder without her body being found.

Smith was last seen Jan. 21, 2017 around 10 p.m. on West Brunson Street in Enterprise, police said at the time.

After conducting interviews and collecting physical evidence, detectives and the Coffee County District Attorney’s Office believed foul play is involved in the case, leading to a warrant for Hunter’s arrest.

On Friday, police began searching around Enterprise for Smith’s body, WTVY reported.
