Police searching for hit-and-run driver who killed 79-year-old Pensacola man on I-10
A 79-year-old Pensacola man was killed by a hit-and-run driver Friday morning on Interstate 10 in Escambia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers responding to the scene found the shirtless, white male laying in the far left lane of I-10 east near Pensacola Boulevard about 5:30 a.m. Friday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.
Traffic was reduced to one lane on I-10 east for a couple of hours after the incident.
The Florida Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies have now turned their attention to finding the driver of the vehicle involved.
The FHP is asking the public to be aware of anyone taking a car to a repair shop without a police report or anyone who reports damage to their vehicle but “doesn’t know what they hit.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol by dialing *247 or their local law enforcement agency.
