Police on scene of fatal shooting in southwest Birmingham

An investigation is underway after a person was found shot to death Saturday morning in southwest Birmingham.

West Precinct officers were dispatched shortly after 8:30 a.m. to the 1500 block of Snavely Avenue on a report of a person shot. They arrived to find the male victim dead from at least one gunshot wound.

The victim was possibly found inside a vehicle. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police have roped off much of Snavely Avenue.

This is a developing story and will be updated when police release more information.

The victim is Birmingham’s 56th homicide this year. Of those, one was an officer-involved shooting by an outside law enforcement agency. Four others have been ruled justifiable and therefore aren’t deemed criminal.

In all of Jefferson County, there have been 76 homicides, including the 56 in Birmingham.
