A police chase ended in fatal gunfire Monday afternoon in north Birmingham.

Few details have been released but a suspect is dead in a grassy area under the bridge near the Collegeville public housing community.

That location is in the 3000 block of 30th Court North.

He was then fatally shot by a Jefferson County sheriff’s deputy.

Deputy Chief David Agee said the pursuit began in Fairfield just before 2 p.m.

They were chasing someone with an outstanding warrant for kidnapping. Agee did not say if the suspect was armed or fired shots.
