Police chase ends in crash in Mountain Brookâs Brombergs jewelry store
An early-morning police chase ended inside the landmark Brombergs jewelry store in Mountain Brook Village.
“It looks like a bomb’s gone off,’’ said Ricky Bromberg, company president. “It’s a blessing nobody was here, nobody got hurt.”
The Nissan Titan pickup struck an exterior display window on the building’s corner.
“It happened at 2:40 a.m. because that’s where the clock in that area is stopped,’’ Bromberg said.
Mountain Brook Police Chief Jaye Loggins said one person is in custody. He was not injured.
More information about the chase is expected to be released later.
Had the truck been just about 10 feet to the left, it would have crashed through the ground-to-roof glass store front.
“That would have been a complete and utter disaster,’’ Bromberg said.
There is significant property damage, but no merchandise was lost.
“It’s a big deal but it could have been a disaster,’’ he said. “We all feel blessed.”
The store is open today from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.
“The show must go on,’’ Bromberg said.
