Police arrest suspect wearing Julio Jones’ sweatshirt

While Julio Jones now plays for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the former Alabama standout still maintains a home in Atlanta, where he spent his first 10 NFL seasons with the Falcons.

On Tuesday night, Atlanta police responded to a burglary at Jones’ residence in the city’s Buckhead neighborhood.

“There were several items missing from the location, which included clothing and jewelry,” Atlanta Police Capt. Ben Vayens told WAGA-TV in Atlanta, “and also (the officer) did a great job taking a detailed description and providing a detailed description over the radio. …

“When he apprehended the male, he did have on one of his sweatshirts that were stolen from the residence, the exact description provided by the victims, and that helped lead to the arrest.”

Martin Williams, 31, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, has been charged with two counts of first-degree burglary and is in Fulton County jail, ESPN reported on Friday night.

A first-round draft choice from Alabama in 2011, Jones became Atlanta’s all-time receiving leader with 848 receptions for 12,896 yards and 60 touchdowns.

But Jones missed seven games because of hamstring injuries in the 2020 season, and with a new general manager/head coach combination coming in, the Falcons traded the former Foley High School star to the Tennessee Titans on June 9, 2021.

Hamstring injuries caused Jones to miss seven games again in the 2021 season, and the Titans released Jones on March 16.

Jones signed with the Buccaneers on July 26, but he has played in only two of the first five games because of injuries.

Jones did not practice this week because of a knee injury, and Tampa Bay’s injury report designated him as doubtful to play on Sunday, when the Bucs visit the Pittsburgh Steelers.
