Pleasant Grove retires jersey of Philadelphia Eagles star James Bradberry
James Bradberry will forever be remembered at Pleasant Grove High School.
The former Pleasant Grove and current Philadelphia Eagles football player had his No. 10 Jersey retired in a ceremony at the school on Friday.
“This has to be one of the highest honors that I have ever received,” Bradberry said. “I am part of history. I dreamed of playing in college and in the NFL growing up, but I never dreamed of having my jersey retired.”
Bradberry, who will be entering his eighth season in the NFL this year, was an All-State and All-Metro cornerback for the Spartans in 2010 under coach Jim Elgin.
“James was a kid that always did the right things,” said Elgin, who’s now the defensive coordinator at Helena. “I knew James was a good athlete, but I didn’t realize how special he was until we played Hueytown his senior year.
“Jameis Winston was their quarterback and they isolated their receiver (Cameron) Broadnax on James. He intercepted the first pass thrown in his direction. They didn’t throw his way the rest of the game.”
Bradberry, who was rated a two-star recruit coming out of high school, finished his senior season with nine interceptions and 45 tackles.
After playing his college career at Samford, Bradberry was a second-round draft choice of the Carolina Panthers. After a three-year stint in Carolina and two years with the New York Giants, Bradberry signed with Philadelphia. He helped the Eagles to an appearance in Super Bowl 57 in February 2023.
“Players graduate, but the standard stays the same,” said Pleasant Grove head football coach Darrell LeBeaux. “James is one of the players that set the standard.”
Jersey No. 10 has not been handed to another Pleasant Grove player in over a decade.
Despite his success, Bradberry continues to support and help players at his high school.
“He comes up here and works with our kids,” LeBeaux added. “He works out here in the off-season and helps by showing them techniques.”
