Pleasant Grove police officer, suspect wounded in exchange of gunfire, chief says

A Pleasant Grove police officer and a suspect were both wounded in an exchange of gunfire Sunday night.

The officer sustained what appeared to be a graze wound. The extent of the suspect’s injuries was not immediately available.

Both were being taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham.

Police Chief Danny Reid he did not yet know the nature of the initial call.

The shooting happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. in a neighborhood in the 400 block of Fifth Way.

The State Bureau of Investigation has been called in, which is standard procedure for officer-involved shootings.
