Pleasant Grove names new public safety director
A longtime police officer has been named the new public safety director for the city of Pleasant Grove.
Danny Reid, who most recently served as a police captain, was named director on Thursday. He will be formally sworn in on Feb. 21.
Reid replaces Robert “Corky” Knight, who retired in January after more than 40 years of law enforcement service.
Reid started his public service career in 1993 when he became a public safety dispatcher and 911 operator.
In 1995, he began his career as a police officer and attended the University of Alabama Law Enforcement Academy, serving as class president of Session 116.
During his 28 years with the Pleasant Grove Police Department, Reid served as a patrol officer, narcotics investigator, sergeant, lieutenant and captain.
In 2020, he retired from the U.S. Army Reserve as a major, having served more than 20 years in special operations intelligence with multiple tours to Afghanistan and several Middle East locations.
His final assignment was as an intelligence officer for the U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) with additional duties as one of the command jumpmasters for airborne operations.
Reid has criminal justice degrees from Jefferson State Community College and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He received his Juris Doctorate from the Birmingham School of Law.
Pleasant Grove’s public safety director serves as both the police chief and the director of the city’s fire and rescue service. Reid has been in that role as acting chief since mid-December.
