Pleasant Grove man ID’d as pedestrian killed in hit-and-run on Bessemer Super Highway

A Pleasant Grove man has been identified as the pedestrian killed Friday night in a hit-and-run in western Jefferson County.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Prentice Lamone Bibbs. He was 50.

Authorities said Bibbs was walking in the northbound travel lanes of Bessemer Super Highway when he was hit by a vehicle.

Sheriff’s deputies responded shortly before 8:30 p.m. to the wreck on Bessemer Super Highway near Sugar Ray Drive in the Midfield area.

Once there, they learned the victim had been struck by multiple vehicles and was pronounced dead on the scene at 8:29 p.m.

Sheriff’s Lt. Joni Money said Bibbs was initially struck by a vehicle that did not stop. After the initial crash, the victim was hit by more vehicles.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team is conducting the investigation.

No arrests have been announced.
