Playoff roundup:
Alvin Henderson took his spot in the AHSAA record book and led Elba to a 49-14 victory over Maplesville in the Class 1A quarterfinals on Friday.
Henderson finished with 22 carries for 314 yards and six touchdowns on runs of 8, 12, 1, 49, 12, 81 yards. He now has 58 touchdowns this season, a new AHSAA single-season record.
Cayden Adkins added six carries for 93 yards, including a 55-yard run.
Elba (12-0) advances to play defending champ Leroy in next week’s 1A semifinals.
Here’s a look at other games from around the state:
CLASS 6A
Pike Road 31, Benjamin Russell 28
Senior Hunter Ikerman hit a 25-yard field goal with no time remaining to lift the Patriots to the road win over No. 10 Benjamin Russell at Alexander City.
Carson Myers completed 12-of-20 yards for 131 yards with a pair of touchdown passes – both to Jordan King – for 11-2 Pike Road. King had 7 receptions for 75 yards for the Patriots (11-2).
JaMichael Jones ran the ball 25 times for 85 yards and scored twice. Adrian Thornton ran 8 times for 98 yards.
Defensively, Malik Blocton had seven tackles, three for a loss with four quarterback hurries. Mac Ceman had seven tackles with two sacks.
Benjamin Russell (10-3) got touchdown passes of 37 and 60 yards from Gabe Benton to Malcolm Simmons and a 5-yard rushing TD from Simmons.
Pike Road travels to defending Class 6A champion and No. 1 Saraland for the semifinals next week.
CLASS 4A
Montgomery Catholic 44, Jacksonville 20
The Knights earned their third straight trip to the state semifinals with Friday’s win at Jacksonville’s Golden Eagle Stadium.
Montgomery Catholic (12-0) has won 38 of its past 40 games with the only losses coming in the 4A semifinals to Andalusia last season and the 3A semis to Montgomery Academy in 2021 – both by three points.
Montgomery Catholic senior quarterback Caleb McCreary hit 10-of-13 passes for 141 yards and a pair of touchdowns and ran for 139 yards on 14 carries and three more scores in Friday’s win.
Josh Griffin ran the ball eight times for 74 yards and a score while JJ Williams caught six passes for 57 yards.
Harrison Rogers had five tackles, including one for a safety, and two tackles for a loss. Rickie Williams had seven tackles and four pass break-ups. He also had four kick returns for 142 yards. Gavin Phelan also recorded seven stops for the Knights. Garrett Sanford had six tackles, with two behind the line of scrimmage.
Montgomery Catholic will host Booker T. Washington of Tuskegee in the semifinals next week.
B.T. Washington 20, Jackson 17
Elijay Hall scored late in fourth quarter, lifting Booker T. Washington-Tuskegee to a 20-17 victory over Jackson (11-1) in the Class 4A quarterfinals at Eagles Stadium in Tuskegee.
Jeffrey Thompson and Jafari McCould also caught TD passes BTW-Tuskegee.
The Golden Eagles (9-4) moved into the semifinals for the first time in school history and will play at Montgomery Catholic next week.
CLASS 2A
Fyffe 63, Locust Fork 33
Logan Anderson ran Fyffe into the semifinals for the ninth time in the last 11 years by beating Locust Fork 63-33.
Anderson ran for 362 yards rushing and seven touchdowns. He also returned a kickoff 75 yards for touchdown.
Fyffe advances to play Pisgah for the second year in a row in the 2A semifinals. Fyffe beat the Eagles 56-42 on Oct. 20.
Reeltown 41, Cottonwood 22
Reeltown totaled 400 yards of offense and held Cottonwood to 266 total yards in the quarterfinal win.
Arthur Woods did much of the damage for Reeltown (12-0) with 216 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries. Tae Martin added three touchdowns and Xavier Thomas had a touchdown.
Traylon Roberts had five carries for 60 yards and Jake Hornsby completed 3-of-4 passes for 65 yards.
Reeltown plays at top-ranked B.B. Comer (13-0) in semifinal action.
CLASS 1A
Coosa Christian 63, Hackleburg 13
Coosa Christian earned a second straight trip to the Class 1A semifinals, as Kanon Wilson scored five touchdowns.
Wilson finished with 11 carries for 192 yards. Joseph East and Josh Hester also scored rushing touchdowns, and John David Justus complete 13-of-22 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown to Grayson Malone, who finished with four catches for 83 yards.
Coosa Christian (8-5) has won seven straight since forfeiting four wins for using an ineligible player earlier this season. The Conquerors have won 11 straight games on the field after opening the season with a loss to Geraldine and getting a forfeight win over Heritage Academy (Miss.).
Coosa Christian advances to play Pickens County in next week’s semifinals at home.
The season ends for Hackleburg (11-2), which made its deepest playoff run since finishing as 1A runner-up in 2009. Hackleburg has won 11 straight games.
