Players who have emerged as early leaders for Alabama football

Alabama football is in the process of building a new team, with some new leaders, for the 2025 season.

Captains are a long ways from being selected and announced, but some players have already been identified as leaders through voting by Crimson Tide players during spring practices.

Edge rusher Qua Russaw shared some of the names after practice on Wednesday.

“As a team, we had voting and I was one of the guys we selected,” Russaw said. “I’m working on my talking skills, talking to some of the younger guys, trying to get them going.”

Others whom Russaw mentioned among those early leaders: defensive tackle Tim Keenan III, defensive lineman LT Overton, left tackle Kadyn Proctor and quarterback Ty Simpson.

Simpson is a notable mention, considering he’s competing with Austin Mack and Keelon Russell at quarterback. But Simpson is also a veteran on the roster, heading into his fourth season with the Crimson Tide.

Alabama is in the back half of spring practices, which will conclude with A-Day on April 12.
