Plane crash at Eufaula airport claims life of Florida man

A Destin man was killed when the single-engine aircraft he was piloting crashed at the Eufaula Municipal Airport, according to the Eufaula Police Department.

Emergency personnel responded to a report of a downed aircraft about 9 a.m. Thursday. Police arriving on the scene confirmed the plane had gone down at the north end of the runway.

Barbour County Coroner Chip Chapman told WDHN the crash occurred about 1 a.m. Wednesday, but was not discovered until another plane passing over the site notified authorities.

The pilot, 35-year-old Nathan O’Donnell, was found dead within the wreckage of the 1958 Piper Comanche PA-24.

No other details were available. The crash is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration. Eufaula police said additional information would be released once the investigation is complete.
