Pisgah outlasts Tanner 66-38 in shootout
Pisgah advanced to the Class 2A third round by beating Tanner 66-38 on Friday.
Mason Holcomb accounted for five touchdowns, four passing and one rushing, for Pisgah (11-1). Luke Gilbert added two touchdown runs and picked off two Tanner passes, returning one of them 55 yards for a score. Legion McCrary had a rushing score and an interception.
Pisgah led 28-0 in the second quarter and maintained a double-digit advantage the rest of the game. Tanner got within 34-24 in the third quarter.
“Something that we tell the guys, it ain’t about who we play it’s about us,” Pisgah coach Luke Pruitt said. “We do what we’re supposed to do and stick with our plan.”
Tanner (8-4) got four touchdown passes and two runs for scores from Karl Parham, but the offense never found its rhythm to complete the comeback. Isaiah Pryor had an interception for the Rattlers.
“We got beat by a team that made more plays than us,” Tanner coach Oscar Bonds said. “We just didn’t make enough plays tonight.”
Pisgah will host Tuscaloosa Academy next week.
