Pinson man jailed after arranging to meet 14-year-old girl for sex at Fultondale motel, authorities say
A Pinson man is behind bars after authorities say he plotted to meet what he thought was a 14-year-old girl at a Fultondale hotel.
Christopher W. Card, 39, is charged with child solicitation by computer and traveling to meet a child for unlawful sex acts.
The investigation began last week when detectives with the Millen Police Department in Georgia were working to identify people committing internet crimes against children.
As part of that operation, they made contact with Card, who believed he was chatting online with a 14-year-old girl. He was actually communicating with undercover investigators.
Jefferson County sheriff’s Lt. Joni Money said during the conversation, Card arranged to meet the teen girl at a hotel in Fultondale.
Millen police worked with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI, and the U.S. Secret Service on the case to meet the suspect at the hotel instead of the fictional teen girl.
On Dec. 22, Card was arrested in the parking lot of a hotel on Lowery Parkway in Fultondale.
A search warrant at his Pinson home led to the seizure of several electronic devices.
Money said additional charges are possible depending on what is found on those devices.
Card remains held in the Jefferson County Jail on $90,000 bond.
“Agencies working together is another example of how our deputies build relationships,’’ Sheriff Mark Pettway said. “In this case, we were able to arrest a child predator living right here in Jefferson County.”
