Pinson man charged in theft of St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle from deputy’s home

A Pinson man is under arrest after authorities say he stole a St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle early Monday and then caused a crash with injuries on Interstate 20.

Anthony Marzenell, also known as Anthony Hassler, is charged with two counts of first-degree theft of property, and one count of leaving the scene of an accident.

The 42-year-old suspect is also accused of stealing a city’s vehicle Monday as well.

He is being held without bond in the St. Clair County Jail in Pell City. He is also facing a probation revocation on a previous charge.

The car was stolen from a deputy’s residence in Moody at 3:20 a.m., said Sheriff Billy Murry.

Authorities said Marzenell struck another vehicle on I-20 and fled the scene.

According to Alabama State Troopers, the stolen vehicle was a 2023 Ford F-150. The driver crashed into the rear of a Ford Mustang driven by 27-year-old Trevon K. Oliver of Birmingham.

Oliver was taken to UAB Hospital in stable condition.

Details of the theft of the second vehicle weren’t immediately released.
