Pilot presumed dead in Etowah County plane crash

One person is suspected dead following a plane crash in the northern part of Etowah County Monday.

A Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson said a single-engine Piper PA-32R crashed near Northeast Alabama Regional Airport in Gadsden around 5:45 p.m.

Deputies, along with fire departments from Attalla, Ivalee and Gallant, responded to the area of Rocky Hollow Cutoff Road.

Only the pilot was on board.

Etowah County Deputy Coroner Dantez Robinson said authorities could not release the victim’s name pending confirmation.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate.
