A Cullman County pilot was killed when their plane crashed Friday afternoon in a field, authorities said.

Cullman County sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene of the by near Cullman County Road 1488 near Vinemont, said Lt. Chad Whaley.

Cullman County Coroner Jeremy Kilpatrick said the crash happened at 11:36 a.m. in a field near a landing strip and that the strip was not the pilot’s destination.

The plane was occupied only by the pilot. He was pronounced dead on the scene from blunt force injuries.

His name is being withheld pending notification of his family. Kilpatrick said he is from Cullman County.

Sheriff’s deputies were holding the scene for the National Transportation Safety Board to investigate the crash, Whaley said.
