Phish’s summer tour kicked off at Orion Amphitheater Tuesday, the first of two shows at the still-new Huntsville venue, and fans jam-packed the obligatory parking lot scene hours before showtime for cold drinks, grilled cheese and good vibes.

The “Shakedown Street” vending area officially opened from noon until midnight where fans could stroll around perusing tents for T-shirts, jewelry stickers and delicious homemade food before, during and after the Vermont-based jam quartet hit the Orion stage.

Fans of all ages sauntered in the Rocket City’s evening heat as Phish embarks on a 23-date, 8-city tour starting with two nights in Alabama and ending with a 4-night stretch at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Colorado.

Phish performed a unique set Tuesday, highlighted by fan favorites like “You Enjoy Myself” and “Down with Disease, and featuring a rare 5-song encore culminating with the “Billy Breathes” track “Character Zero.” Look for AL.com writer Matt Wake’s recap of the show soon.

The band will perform at Orion Amphitheater again Wednesday, July 12, before a 3-night stretch at Ameris Bank Amphitheatre in Alpharetta, Ga.
