Philadelphia Eagles make 2 more Alabama high school alumni eligible to play in Super Bowl LIX
The Philadelphia Eagles elevated fullback Khari Blasingame and linebacker Nicholas Morrow from their practice squad on Saturday, making the Alabama high school alumni eligible to play in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday.
Each NFL team can elevate two players from its practice squad to active status for each game. Players can be elevated no more than three times during the regular season, but that rule does not apply to the postseason, which made it possible for Philadelphia to elevate Blasingame for Super Bowl LIX.
A former Buckhorn High School standout, Blasingame signed with the Eagles’ practice squad on Dec. 3 after he had been released by the Chicago Bears on Oct. 26.
Philadelphia elevated Blasingame to active status for the first three games after he signed with the Eagles. He then had to sit out the final two games of the regular season.
Philadelphia then elevated Blasingame for all three of its games in the NFC playoffs on the way to Super Bowl LIX. And because the three-game limit does not apply in the postseason, he was eligible for elevation again this week.
Blasingame has been on the field for 84 special-teams plays in his six outings with the Eagles.
A Huntsville High School alumnus, Morrow joined Philadelphia on Jan. 14. He started 13 games for the Eagles last season, then left for the Buffalo Bills as a free agent in the offseason. Buffalo released Morrow on Jan. 2, and the Eagles got him back for their practice squad after linebacker Nakobe Dean sustained a season-ending knee injury.
Morrow has played in both games as a practice-squad elevation since joining Philadelphia. He was on the field for four defensive snaps and 37 special-teams plays in the two playoff victories.
The Eagles will play the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX at 5:30 p.m. CST Sunday at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. FOX will televise the game.
