Phenix City man reportedly killing in drive-by shooting over the weekend

A Phenix City man was reportedly killed over the weekend in a drive-by shooting Saturday afternoon.

No suspects were in custody as of Monday, but police are seeking to identify a car that was in the area during the shooting that killed 22-year-old Daeqwon Mackey, Phenix City police told WVTM.

Mackey was shot around 2:45 p.m. Saturday in the 2700 block of 6th Street in Phenix City. He was taken to Columbus Piedmont Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The vehicle police are seeking information on is believed to be a silver/light blue silver Hyundai Sonata, said Phenix City police Capt. Skip Lassiter.

“All we know is that it was in the area at the time of the incident,” Lassiter said, cautioning that police are not yet labeling the vehicle as belonging to a suspect.
