Pete Davidson hoops in shirt with Alabama actor during Vegas pickup game

Can Pete Davidson hoop? The standup comic and former “Saturday Night Live” star played some pickup basketball in Las Vegas this week, and we spotted a terrifying piece of Alabama pop culture on his T-shirt mid-dribble.

Currently on his “Pete Davidson Working out New Material with Friends” tour, the “Bupkis” and “King of Staten Island” actor enjoyed a pickup game at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. His social media team shared a montage of Davidson’s hardcourt skills this week.

“Introducing our newest walk-on … Pistol Pete Davidson,” the UNLV tweet said.

Dressed in a black T-shirt and shorts, Davidson sported a shirt horror fans (and Alabamians) probably quickly noticed as he flew from baseline to baseline.

He’s wearing a shirt featuring Art the Clown, the villain and face of the “Terrifier” horror movie franchise. The character is played by David Howard Thornton, who grew up in Huntsville.

Thornton has emerged as a major horror star portraying multiple slashers onscreen. In 2022, he starred in one of the year’s buzziest horror films, “Terrifier 2,″ as Art the Clown in a follow-up to 2016′s “Terrifier.” And later that year he starred as a certain furry green bad guy in Grinch parody “The Mean One.”

Created by writer/director Damien Leone, Art the Clown debuted in a short film before transitioning to feature films in 2013′s “All Hallows’ Eve” in which he was played by actor Mike Gianelli. Thornton took over in the original “Terrifier” film, which will soon become a trilogy. Art has quickly become a cult horror figure and one of the most identifiable slasher villains in the tradition of Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger and Jason Vorhees.

Thornton told AL.com he began seeing people at horror conventions with tattoos of his face on their bodies, with others dressing up just like the sadistic character. Vendors even sold merchandise emblazoned with his image. “And I was like, ‘Wow, I think we might have something,’” Thornton said. “Because you usually don’t see a lot of that kind of stuff happening at conventions with new horror characters. That usually takes a while to actually garner a following.”

If an influential pop culture “it” guy like Davidson takes notice and sports your T-shirt in public, that just adds another layer to Art’s mystique and likely boosts Thornton’s opportunities in Hollywood.

And Davidson didn’t look half-bad on the court. Did he grow up playing hoops, or did his pal Adam Sandler — who frequently plays pickup basketball — lure him into the sport?

Davidson recently canceled a slate of dates at the Huntsville comedy club Stand Up Live, previously booking two shows a night for July 13-16. Shortly after they were announced, the eight underplay shows quickly sold out. But an email to ticketholders read, “Unfortunately, due to a scheduling conflict, ALL PETE DAVIDSON WORKING OUT NEW MATERIAL WITH FRIENDS SHOWS AT STAND UP LIVE ARE CANCELLED. All tickets will be refunded back to the original payment method. If you need further assistance, please contact our box office at 256-261-3374.”
