Person injured in shooting involving Huntsville police, authorities say

One person was taken to the hospital following an officer-involved shooting Thursday night in downtown Huntsville, police said.

The incident occurred near Monroe Street and Holmes Avenue around 6 p.m. Thursday, said police spokeswoman Sydney Martin.

One person was taken to the hospital by Huntsville Emergency Medical Services, Inc., said Martin. The extent of their injuries was not immediately clear.

No officers were injured in the incident, which was described as an “officer-involved shooting.”

Police did not provide details on the circumstances surrounding the shooting, deferring any questions on the incident to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

WHNT reported an officer discharged their weapon during the incident.

An ALEA spokeswoman could not immediately be reached for comment.

ALEA’s state Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate the shooting.
