Perfection? Hoover boys battle to repeat, finish season with unbeaten record
This season, only two basketball teams have navigated into the Alabama High School Athletic Association postseason with an unblemished slate. Both are looking to join the elite group of 11 boys teams in AHSAA history that have finished unbeaten. One is looking for a third straight state championship when all eyes turn to Birmingham’s Legacy Arena at the end of the month.
Scott Ware’s two-time defending champion Hoover Bucs are 29-0 this season – as is Class 1A Spring Garden – and are riding a 39-game winning streak into Wednesday’s Class 7A, Area 6 Tournament. Top-ranked Hoover is hosting the event as the top seed, obviously, and will meet fourth seed Oak Mountain at 4:30 p.m. in the opening game of the tourney. Second seed and No. 7 Vestavia Hills will play Hewitt-Trussville at 6:30.
