Pentagon explosion photo goes viral, but itâs fake, suspected of being AI-generated image
The Department of Defense confirmed Monday that a viral photo depicting an explosion outside the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, is fake, according to Forbes.
The image, believed to be AI generated, went viral Monday. It circulated on Twitter and showed an explosion on a grass lawn outside the Pentagon. The tweet has since been removed.
A Department of Defense spokesperson confirmed to Forbes the image is a piece of “misinformation,” while the Arlington Fire and EMS Department tweeted: “There is NO explosion or incident” or “immediate danger or hazards to the public.”
The New York Daily News reports Russia’s state-controlled news network, Russia Today, shared the picture with three million followers. The network later deleted the post.
