Pensacola student named prom queen after she died in car crash
When Northview (Fla.) High School students returned from spring break on March 20, they did so with heavy hearts.
Senior Kara Santorelli, 18, had been killed just three days earlier when her vehicle was struck by a wrong-way driver on Highway 29, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Saturday night, her classmates and school honored her by naming her prom queen, according to NorthEscambia.com and dedicated the event to her memory.
According to the school, a mural was also painted in Santorelli’s honor on Pensacola’s Graffiti Bridge, reading “Your wings were ready, but our hearts were not.” Last week, her fellow seniors planted a tree in her honor on the Northview campus.
A Sunrise Celebration of Life had been held a week earlier on Pensacola Beach.
