Pensacola man charged with homicide in crash that killed college student

A 59-year-old Pensacola man has been charged with homicide in a DUI-related crash that killed a college student Tuesday.

Oscar Daniel Martin of Pensacola has been charged with homicide/negligent vehicular manslaughter – DUI. He is being held without bond in the Escambia County Jail, with an April 14 court date in Escambia County Circuit Court, according to jail records.

According to WEAR in Pensacola, the Florida Highway Patrol said Martin was traveling eastbound on Airport Boulevard when his Ford F-150 left the roadway, struck and mailbox and then the student, identified as 19-year-old Pensacola Christian College student Jadon Goins.

Goins was doing lawn maintenance outside a college facility when he was struck and killed. He was taken from the scene by ambulance, but died en route to an area hospital, according to the report.

The report indicates witnesses identified Martin as the driver of the truck which struck Goins. The FHP said Martin’s truck didn’t come to a stop until it struck a power pole. Troopers also reportedly smelled alcohol on Martin’s person.
