Pell City man on ATV gets hit by train and is arrested

A Pell City man survived being hit by a train and ended up jail instead.

St. Clair County sheriff’s deputies were notified about 8 a.m. Wednesday by Norfolk Southern that a train traveling eastbound had “impacted” an ATV operated by a 33-year-old man.

The man was not injured.

The location was in the area of Sunrise Drive in Pell City.

Deputies arrived and made contact with the train’s conductor and the ATV operator, James Simpson.

Sheriff’s officials said Simpson was in possession of methamphetamine and marijuana. He also had an outstanding third-degree burglary warrant.

Simpson is being held in the St. Clair County Jail on bonds totaling $16,000.
