Pell City High School employee arrested for solicitation of minor after campus disturbance

A Pell City High School employee was arrested Monday after a school resource officer was told of a disturbance on campus, according to police.

After police investigated, Robert Evans, a 57-year-old janitor assigned to the athletics department and well-known basketball coach in the community, was booked into the St. Clair County Jail at 1:44 p.m.

He was released at 2:10 p.m. after posting bond on a charge of solicitation involving a minor.

Pell City Schools released this statement:

“Today our school system investigated a report of a possible situation involving inappropriate conduct by an employee of the Pell City School System.

“As a result, we had an employee at Pell City High School who has been arrested for solicitation of a minor.

“This individual has subsequently submitted his resignation from the Pell City School System.”
