Pedestrian struck, killed while walking on Birmingham road

An investigation is underway after a pedestrian was struck and killed over the weekend in Birmingham.

The crash happened at 1:15 a.m. Saturday in the 200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said the victim was walking in the roadway when he was struck. No additional details have been released, but authorities said the driver stopped.

The man was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:41 a.m.

He has not yet been identified, but Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said he was an adult white male.
