Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run on I-59 in Birmingham now identified

Authorities have released the name of a pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run on Interstate 59.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office Friday identified the victim as Johnathan Christian Hamff. He was 45 and lived in Birmingham.

Authorities said the man was walking on the shoulder of Interstate 59 southbound Wednesday when he was struck by an unknown vehicle at the Roebuck Parkway exit ramp.

The crash happened at 11 p.m., and the man was pronounced dead on the scene at 11:19 p.m.

The motorist who struck the victim fled the scene after the collision.

Birmingham police are investigating.
