A pedestrian was hit and killed Monday night on a Birmingham interstate.

Police and fire medics were dispatched at 6:24 p.m. to a report of a person struck on Interstate 59 northbound at the Ensley exit.

Police Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said the victim was an adult male. He was pronounced dead on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service.

The investigation is ongoing by the Traffic Homicide Unit.
