A pedestrian was killed early this morning when he was hit by a vehicle in Bessemer.

The crash happened at 1:01 a.m. in the 1000 block of Ninth Avenue S.W., according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.

Authorities said the victim was crossing multiple traffic lanes when he was struck. The driver stopped and called 911.

The man was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:57 a.m. He has not yet been identified.

Bessemer police are investigating.
