Paul Finebaum: Tommy Rees a disaster, only 1 QB for Alabama, which is in ‘turmoil’

Paul Finebaum went on the offensive Sunday morning, which is more he could say for Alabama over the weekend.

The SEC Network analyst made it clear Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide’s offensive woes at the feel of one person more than any other: Offensive coordinator Tommy Rees.

“For the life of me, I don’t understand what Tommy Rees, the offensive coordinator is doing,” Finebaum said on ESPN’s SportsCenter on Sunday. “Quite frankly, I don’t know what Tommy Rees is even doing there after three weeks. There were jokes on my Twitter line about whether he’d make the plane coming home. I’m not really sure he should.

So far, Tommy Rees has been a disaster as Nick Saban’s offensive coordinator. He clearly went with the wrong quarterback with (Tyler) Buchner, the guy that followed him from Notre Dame. Ty Simpson had some moments, but he’s still young and raw and against big-time SEC competition, he could be under a lot of pressure.”

Finebaum said the choice for quarterback is clear.

“The guy who started the first two games, Jalen Milroe, he said. He made plenty of mistakes against Texas, but he has the talent. He can run the ball. He can make big plays.”

He pointed out, however, that Saban only listens to Reese, “which is one reason why I think the program is in such turmoil.”
