Paul Finebaum: ‘Nick Saban’s career is teetering right now’ as Alabama ‘in dire straits’

Paul Finebaum had plenty to say, and it didn’t take the SEC Network analyst long to say it.

During a segment on ESPN’s “Get Up,” Finebaum voiced concern for the Alabama program, Nick Saban’s career and the job offensive coordinator Tommy Rees is doing – or not doing. He did it all in 60 seconds.

“Alabama’s in dire straits right now,” Saban said. “They really have very little going for it. Saban brought in Tommy Rees from Notre Dame. In three games, the offensive coordinator has screwed up the quarterback situation as bad as, well, the Jets.

“It’s impossible to talk about how poor things are right now.”

He did, however, give it a shot. Offensive line issues he called a “complete and total disaster,” along with musical chairs at quarterback have Finebaum at a loss. Jalen Milroe started games against Middle Tennessee and Texas before Tyler Buchner and Ty Simpson saw action against South Florida. Saban, though, has gone back to Milroe for Saturday’s.

“It makes very little sense,” he said.

With Ole Miss visiting Tuscaloosa on Saturday, the pressure, he said, is on Saban and the Tide.

“I think Nick Saban’s career is teetering right now in the sense where is it going to go,” he explained. “If Lane Kiffin walks in there Saturday and beats him, the playoff hopes are over, and people are really going to start doubting Saban’s future.
