The death of Paul Costict, a Mobilian who got a taste of Top 10 musical success with the 1997 novelty hit “My Baby Daddy,” was reported Monday by TMZ and numerous other outlets.

Few details were available. TMZ said it had received a statement from an unidentified family member, who said Costict had died unexpectedly on Saturday at his home in Nofolk, Va. He was 57.

Costict and Thaddeus “T-Bird” Maye from Mobile became associated with New Yorkers Baron “B-Rock” Agee and Leevirt Agee in the ‘90s. In 1997, the group B-Rock & The Bizz scored its only chart hit with “My Baby Daddy.” The upbeat song, accompanied by a video that referenced daytime TV shows and had a block-party feel, made it into the Top 10 of Billboard’s Hot 100.

Maye posted on Facebook: “This one really hit home I got tears in my eyes as I post this. PAUL COSTICT was a very funny and Kool brother. We go way back to Blount high school. We always janked. He was so funny. Love you brother rip, please keep me and his family in your PRAYERS.”
