Patrick Surtain II helps debut Broncos’ throwback look
The Denver Broncos have new uniforms for the first time since 1997, and the NFL team used a current and past defensive star to help introduce their throwback kit.
Former Alabama All-American Patrick Surtain II is preparing for his fourth season with Denver. He’s been a Pro Bowl cornerback the past two seasons and earned first-team All-Pro recognition in 2022.
Surtain appears in a video in which he seemingly steps into the past to find his throwback jersey in shop with a street number of 5280, where the proprietor gives him the helmet that goes with the Broncos’ new old uniform.
The proprietor is former Denver linebacker Randy Gradishar, who will be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August.
Gradishar was a first-team All-Pro for the first time in 1977, the season in which the Broncos made their first Super Bowl appearance and the basis for the throwback uniforms.
The throwbacks feature a blue helmet with a period-accurate “D” logo with a rearing bronco, white-orange-white striping and white facemasks. The helmet goes with the orange jerseys, white pants and blue socks to complete the 1977 look.
Denver also unveiled the uniforms called the Mile High Collection on Monday. The new look for the Broncos features three jerseys – sunset orange, midnight navy and summit white – that can be paired with pants that come in the same colors.
