Parker’s matchup with Carrollton (Ga.) to air on ESPN2

This year’s matchup between Parker and Carrollton (Ga.) on Sept. 20 will be showcased on ESPN2, it was announced Wednesday morning.

The game between two of the Southeast’s top teams will be played at Major Brown Memorial Stadium in Birmingham, with kickoff set for 7 p.m.

This will mark the second high school football program from the state of Alabama with a game televised on ESPN2 this season, along with Thompson’s matchup against Grayson (Ga.).

“This is more than just a moment for our football team, it’s a defining moment for our entire community,” Parker coach Frank Warren told AL.com. “Being on a national stage for the first time is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our players, coaches and families. This exposure puts our school on the map and showcases the incredible talent and sport that we have here.

“It’s not just about the game, it’s about giving our players the platform they deserve and inspiring our community to dream big and reach for greatness. Carrollton will be a tough opponent; they are well coached and athletic.”

Parker opened its season with a dominant 41-12 win over Ramsay, which was ranked No. 1 in Class 5A in the Alabama Sports Writers Association rankings at the time.

Parker ranked No. 2 in Class 6A in the most recent rankings, only behind reigning Class 6A champion Saraland.

The Thundering Herd’s roster includes Ohio State safety commit Na’eem Offord, 4-star defensive lineman Jourdin Crawford, 4-star Miami defensive back commit Timothy Merritt and 4-star defensive lineman Vodney Cleveland.

Carrollton opened its season with a 2-0 start, earning a 24-14 win at Woodward Academy (Ga.) and a 35-7 win against Columbia (Ga.).

The Trojans will be led by 5-star quarterback prospect and Southern California commit Julian Lewis, who is regarded as one of the top overall prospects in the country.

Other notable prospects for the Georgia powerhouse include Southern California cornerback commit Shamar Arnoux, 4-star wide receiver Ryan Mosley, 4-star safety prospect Zelus Hicks and 3-star linebacker CJ Gamble.

Carrollton ranked No. 19 in the country in MaxPreps’ composite top 25, which was released Tuesday.
