The first ASWA high school softball rankings feature plenty of teams with championship experience, but only two defending title winners.

Class 7A winner from 2022 Thompson starts atop the poll as does Orange Beach, which won Class 2A the past two seasons. Reclassification pushed the Makos up to Class 4A this season, but they’re still ranked No. 1.

Six of the eight top-ranked teams have won state titles.

The remainder of top-ranked teams are Class 6A Wetumpka, Class 5A Springville, Class 3A Plainview, Class 2A Wicksburg, Class 1A Skyline and AISA Macon East.
