Pair of Alabama softball players named to All-SEC Second Team

Alabama softball had two players honored by the Southeastern Conference for their role in Team 28. On Friday, pitcher Kayla Beaver and infielder Kenleigh Cahalan were named to the All-SEC second team.

Beaver, a transfer from Central Arkansas, went 16-8 from the circle with a 1.78 ERA overall. She totaled eight wins with a 2.48 ERA in conference play. It’s the third conference honor Beaver has received dating back to her time in the Southland and ASUN.

Some of Beaver’s best outings came against SEC lineups. After she struck out 16 Ole Miss batters across 11.2 innings in a home series last month, Beaver was awarded co-conference pitcher of the week. She also recorded four shutouts. Beaver threw six innings in Alabama’s 14-inning marathon against LSU in the conference tournament, a 3-2 loss.

Cahalan, a native of Trussville, has started all 50 of the Tide’s games this season with a career-high .293 batting average atop the lineup. She’s ripped 14 extra-base hits, including four triples. Cahalan totaled 117 assists from shortstop.

It’s the ninth season in a row Alabama has had at least two players recognized on All-SEC lists. The Tide will learn its NCAA tournament fate this weekend. The latest projections have UA as a lower-seeded regional host.
