Own one of these vehicles from General Motors? They are being recalled

General Motors is recalling nearly 820,000 cars due to a safety issue.

According to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall impacts certain 2020-2024 pickup vehicles equipped with power-unlatching tailgates. The tailgate’s electronic gate-release switch may short circuit due to water intrusion, which can result in the tailgate unlatching while the vehicle is in park.

All of the recalled vehicles were manufactured during 2020 and 2024.

Here are the General Motors cars that are being recalled:

  • CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500
  • CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500
  • GMC SIERRA 2500
  • GMC SIERRA 3500

Owners of the vehicles are advised to check that the tailgate is closed and latched before driving. Dealers will replace the exterior touchpad switch assemblies, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by March 18.
