Oscar, Grammy-winner to perform in Birmingham

Jon Batiste, the award-winning vocalist and pianist, will perform in Birmingham on April 29 at Avondale Brewery as part of his Uneasy Tour.

Batiste, originally from New Orleans, studied music at The Juilliard School in New York City while working with his band, Stay Human. From 2015 until 2022, Batiste led the house band for “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” five nights a week.

He recently performed at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, and was nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for his latest album “World Music Radio.” In 2022 he won the coveted Album of the Year Grammy for his sixth album, “We Are,” and was nominated in 11 other categories that year. He now has five total Grammys. In 2020, he won the Oscar for Best Original Score for the Pixar animated film, “Soul.”

In late 2023, Batiste, and his wife, Suleika Jaouad, were featured in the Netflix documentary “American Symphony,” which focused on their lives during the height of his career. The film documented the promotion of Batiste’s album, “We Are,” as well as the composition of a symphony that was scheduled to be performed at Carnegie Hall, and Jaouad’s battle with leukemia.
