Bo Nix, just minutes after his Oregon Ducks fell to Washington on Saturday, gave a passionate, three-minute answer to what was a pretty standard question.

The former Auburn quarterback was asked what it meant for the Ducks to lose control of their postseason destiny.

The response went viral.

“I mean, we are in control. We can win out and put ourselves in a really good spot,” he began. “That’s all we can control and that’s all we really have to control. Like I said, it’s frustrating to lose a game like this. It’s frustrating to be on this side. It’s easy to go back and say, ‘We should have done this and we should have done that.’ But point blank, period, there’s only one person in that position, and that’s coach Lanning. There’s an offense and a defense that went out there and played today.

“Sometimes you put it all out there and it’s not enough, and it’s frustrating. That’s part of life. Sometimes in life, you’re gonna get knocked down. You may get fired from a job. You may lose a sale. But I hope that doesn’t stop you from going out there and trying to sell something else. So, this is a great learning lesson for us. There’s a lot more in life than football games. I know that for sure. Tomorrow the sun will come up. God is still good. I’m just here to be an influence to other people — be a light around me. If I’ve got to use football to do that, then I’m gonna do the best I can at it.

“A lot of people want see how we respond and I’m excited for that. That’s the challenge I can’t wait for. This group is going to be able to write it’s own story, write it’s own journey. If it was easy, everybody would do it. If there were no failures, then everybody would be playing football, you know? So, I think that’s part of it. You win and lose, go out there and play your best. Go out there and enjoy the process. Even though I hated the outcome, today was one heck of a football game that I loved playing in it.

“I’ll lose with those guys any day. Because I know what they’ve put into it. I know everybody can nitpick it all they want. But ya’ll don’t see us on Tuesday and Wednesday practicing, either. Ya’ll don’t see what kind of passion and fire we play with. I think it’s definitely unfair to nitpick and critique those guys in that locker room, and even our coaches who do an incredible job of preparing us each and every week and getting us ready to play.

“You go out there and do your best to win the game. Sometimes you lose and that’s part of it. I’m proud to be an Oregon Duck. I’m proud to be here. I’m proud to play with this locker room. I’m proud to play for these coaches. It means a lot to me. I’m not going to quit on them and I know they’re not going to quit on me. So, we have a lot to play for as the season goes on. I think it’s a challenge that I’m built for and I think I was just put into this position for that. And that’s what I’m gonna do.”

Michael Penix Jr. threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Rome Odunze with 1:38 remaining after another questionable fourth-down decision by Oregon, and Camden Lewis missed a 43-yard field goal attempt on the final play of the game as No. 7 Washington held off No. 8 Oregon 36-33 in another wild chapter to their heated rivalry.

Penix needed just two plays to go 53 yards in 33 seconds after Oregon was stopped on foruth-and-3 at the Washington 47 with 2:11 remaining. Penix threw a 35-yard strike to Ja’Lynn Polk between two defenders, then hit Odunze on a back-shoulder throw at the goal line to give Washington the lead.
