Orange Beach police welcome spring breakers, but with a warning
March is upon us and for students across the country, that means one thing — spring break.
Orange Beach police are acutely aware of this, judging by the police department’s Facebook post Monday morning in which they welcome people to “come down and have a great time at the beach, enjoy themselves and be safe.”
But the release below the caption takes a more serious turn.
“Orange Beach is a beautiful city which has experienced increases in underage drinking, traffic related events, fighting, trespassing and illegal drug use during spring break,” the release reads in part.
“The Orange Beach Police Department will utilize all available resources to maintain the City of Orange Beach as a family friendly tourist destination,” it continues.
“If you are looking for a party town, the City of Orange Beach is not it. Underage Drinking, Illegal Drug use, Disorderly Conduct or any other breach of the peace will not be tolerated and you will go to jail. There will be no warnings.”
Posted around 10:30 a.m., the early reactions to the statement were positive, with 135 “likes”, 112 shares, and five comments, also all positive, including “WELL DONE OB,” “Thank you for protecting our beautiful paradise,” and “Great job!!”
