Opp High School student found with airsoft handgun
A Opp High School student was detained this morning after being found with an airsoft handgun, the school system said.
Administrators learned from students that there was a possible weapon on campus prior to the opening of school Friday morning, according to a statement from the system.
After initiating safety and security procedures, officials found the gun in a student’s possession.
The student was removed from campus and transferred to Opp police, the system said. The student’s name was not released.
Following a search, students resumed a regular daily schedule.
“Safety and security are our number one priority. We are blessed and thankful to have students willing to come forth and alert our administrators and staff about potential dangers,” the system stated.
